Skin Preparation Guide by @drjemimagrant

There is nothing more beautiful than naturally radiant skin.

We love to help people prepare for special milestone moments in life such as weddings, birthdays, reunions and family celebrations. The trick is being organised- think about what your priorities are and come early so we can plan ahead. Once we come up with a treatment plan, leave the skin to us, and work on your whole body, not just your skin! Exercise regularly, cut down on alcohol, stay hydrated and practice self care. That’s when people look truly beautiful.

Pre-Consultation Tips

Before your first appointment, write a list and consider the following issues:

  1. What to you want to enhance?

Are there any features you’d like to highlight e.g. cheeks, lips, jawline? Or do you want to keep it natural and just focus on skin and “invisible” treatments?

  2. What do you want to treat/what you don’t like?

Do you hate your double chin or forehead lines? Are you sick of everyone saying you look tired? Do you want to improve congestion or skin dullness so you glow* on the day? (* this is our specialty).

  3. What are your non–negotiables?

You may wish to look natural but would like to reduce some lines, you might be pregnant or breastfeeding and need to keep it safe, or do you just want to just do everything?! It’s completely normal to have these expectations, and we can help you achieve all of them, and deliver the best outcome for you!

  4. Consider your budget.

Budget planning helps us to compose a meaningful plan. We’ll be honest about what we think would be the BEST plan, but if you think this needs to be trimmed a bit down to match what you can afford, we’ll try to prioritise based on your wishes. We’ll also be honest if your budget does not match your expectations. We can also provide packages and zippay to help make treatments more affordable.

  5. Do your research.

It’s extremely important you feel informed about your options. You need to consider the benefits and the risks of any procedures you might want. We expect you to be an active participant in this journey. So take the time, ask the questions and do your homework!

Your Skin Prep Timeline

6 - 12 months | Before your event

Book in a Medical Consultation with Dr Grant. Starting your journey early provides adequate time to compose an individual and comprehensive plan, to utilise treatments that may take time for full effect (e.g. PRP or resurfacing treatments) and to try new things BEFORE your big day!

At your consult, expect the following:

  • A full medical review including medical issues, medications and supplements, allergies and past medical and your cosmetic history.

  • Skin assessment including a review of your priority list and maybe a few suggestions of our own. We won’t recommend anything that we don’t think will work.

  • Photography for medico-legal data and treatment progression, these photos will not be used publicly!

  • A personal, medical grade skin care treatment plan for home.

  • A personal treatment plan for clinic treatments. We advise one of our Signature treatments every 4 weeks get skin glowing and maintain healthy skin. We will also a customised plan combining advanced dermal therapy or aesthetic treatments, according to your concerns.

6 months | Before your event

  • Continue your daily home care regime and implement your lifestyle changes.

  • Continue your monthly skin treatment

  • If you haven’t had any anti-wrinkle injections before and you are interested in this treatment, we advise you have your first treatment at least 5 months before your big day. This will allow you to assess if you like it and what suits you. Even just a small treatment to reduce your frown or smile lines will help you to look refreshed.

  • If you are keen to have dermal filler treatments, we need to talk about it early. There are a range of dermal fillers which can glamorise or enhance your features, or treat undesirable features such as volume loss. Common treatments include cheekbone and jawline enhancement; volume replacement to the mid-cheek, and lip filler treatments to enhance your natural shape or add volume. We advise a more conservative lip treatment for your wedding day and we won’t have you spouting duck lips on your big day. Our aesthetic is natural, radiant and refreshed. Dr Grant may also discuss Biostimulator treatments with you if you are a good candidate.

4 months | Before your event

  • After 3 months of home skin care and monthly skin treatments, you’ll be noticing your skin hydration and texture has improved. Depending on the time of year we might suggest:

    • Ultraformer for non surgical skin lift and contouring.

    • Tixel for skin rejuvenation: We are currently obsessed with the outcomes we are getting with Tixel, which is a double whammy treatment focusing on skin rejuvenation and collagen induction- the clinical outcomes include improved skin tone and texture, reduced pore size, improvements in skin laxity and fine lines around the eyes. Start this 4 months before your wedding - three treatment every 4- 6 weeks.

    • Targeted laser or Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) for pigment and redness: IPL will reduce redness and brown sun pigmentation, and to improve skin softness and elasticity. We advise three treatment sessions every 3-4 weeks. Any stubborn vascular marks on the nose or face will be targeted with the NdYag laser.

4 - 6 weeks | Before your event

  • Book your 2nd Ultraformer treatment- this as a favourite treatment for brides it gives you lifted, tigheter skin with no downtime and no needles

  • Book your injectable treatments

    • Injectable treatments look their best 4 weeks after treatment so we recommend coming in 4-6 weeks prior to the big day.

    • Be aware: our clinic DOES NOT treat you with any injectable treatments in the 3 weeks before a wedding or special event, as you need time to let the treatment settle in.

1 week | Before your event

  • We advise Hydrafacial or HydraGenesis treatment a few days before your big day, this depends on your skin sensitivity and past skin treatments.

  • Never do a new treatment the week before your wedding

  • Continue your holistic approach to looking and feeling beautiful!

    • Do not get sunburnt

    • Stay hydrated and if you can, eat lots of celery or drink celery juice, which is a natural diuretic
