BruiseControl: Advice & Evidence from @drjemimagrant

πŸ’‹ No one likes a bruise πŸ™…β€β™€οΈ

However, if you're contemplating an injectable treatment (e.g. anti-wrinkle, dermal filler, PRP) you need to consider IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU!

Procedures with needles involve sticking a sharp object into an area of your body with literally hundreds of blood vessels - if you've ever had a treatment with no bruising, it's a MIRACLE and you should buy a lottery ticket 🀣

How to reduce your chance of bruising:

πŸ₯‚πŸΊ REDUCE alcohol or don' t drink the week before/after your treatment. Alcohol can thin your blood.

πŸ’Š AVOID non-essential supplements and medications that increase bruising risk. These include #FishOil, #StJohnWort, Non Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDS e.g. Ibuprofen/Neurofen), aspirin.

DO NOT STOP PRESCRIBED MEDICATIONS such as aspirin and clopidogrel (e.g. Plavix) as these can be life saving! If you are not sure, book a consult with Dr Jemima Grant first to check.

πŸ”₯ AVOID overheating 4-6 hours before and after your appointment (e.g. a heavy gym workout, sun baking or sauna). Heat causes dilatation of blood vessels which increases bruising risk. If you are having lip dermal filler, avoid hot drinks if you can for the first few days for the same reason.

❄️ APPLY a cool pack or soaked cloth (not ice) to the affected area for 20 minutes every hour or so after your treatment.

🍍 CONSIDER treatments to reduce bruising risk such as #Arnica, #VitaminK or #Bromelain

IF IN DOUBT book a Healite session after your treatment. A course of Healite reduces the length and extent of bruising by up to 50% (evidenced based!). It's also a great treatment to get your skin glowing, so it you are concerned about bruising, it's a no brainer!
