Injectable Collagen Stimulators

What is a Collagen Stimulator?

Collagen stimulators (also known as biostimulators) are injectable products that stimulate your skin cells to produce more collagen, resulting in improvements in skin structure, support and subtle improvements in facial volume.

Biostimulators work by inciting a mild inflammatory response, which stimulates inflammation and finally the deposition of a collagen matrix n the skin. This results in a tightening effect in the skin, volumising the skin, and improving the quality and texture of skin. Some Biostimulators are also used to build structure and improve the contours of the face- these are particularly useful for rejuvenating the jawline, improving mild facial laxity and providing facial support.

Dr Grant uses a variety of collagen stimulators and hybrid products. During a consultation she will discuss your concerns and togetehr you can decide on the best option for you.

How Long Does it Take for Collagen Stimulators to work? It The results of Collagen Stimulators are gradual and subtle- it takes months to exert a physiological response. However, many patients who are looking for natural outcomes prefer this to a sudden or “face changing” treatment. The results of collagen stimulators are cumulative- improving over time- and can last over 2 years. Initially a few treatments will be required, with a small maintenance treatment planned every year.

Who is the Best Candidate for Collagen Stimulators While anyone can benefit from Collagen Stimulation, the best candidates are aged 30 - 55 years old, healthy and those who are concerned with a mix of mild skin laxity and volume loss in the face.

As a general rule, if you are older, your physiological ability to produce collagen reduces so this may impact your outcomes. If you are older, or have a diet low in protein (most begans and vegetarians) it’s important to increase your protein intake before and during your treatment course.

Who is not suitable for Collagen Stimulator Treatments Dr Grant does not treat patients who have a history of multiple allergies or immune over-activation e.g. auto immune disease, or within 4 weeks of a dental procedure or significant infection.

What are the risks of Collagen Stimulators? Like all injected treatments, collagen stimulators can rarely have serious adverse effects, and these treatments are not suited to all patients. The main risk of Biostimulator treatments include infection, nodule formation and inflammatory lumps. Moreover, the impact of collagen stimulators cannot be reversed- as such only advanced injectors should use them as part of their practice.

Consultation Prior ro Treatment As a medical doctor with post graduate training in aesthetics, Dr Grant takes a measured, responsible and cautious approach to treatments and will discuss these risks and how to mitigate and manage them during your consultation. We have many options available in the clinic and after consultation we can plan a suitable plan that will suit your concerns.

When you considering that many of the skin signs of facial ageing are related to skin laxity and loss of collagen, it makes sense to focus on collagen stimulation and skin quality. This gives natural results and glowing skin, rather than an overfilled effect- Dr Jemima Grant
