Clinical Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatments for Pigmentation, Redness & rosacea

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is clinical treatment that breaks up pigmentation and redness, creating more even skin tone and improving the skin texture.  Our IPL is medical grade. IPL is the same as BBL (broad band light therapy)

What concerns does IPL Treat? IPL treats a range of conditions including:

  • superficial pigmentation- age spots, uneven skin tone

  • rosacea / redness & dilated blood vessels

  • acne

  • sun damaged skin

  • skin rejuvenation- a course of IPL will improve skin softness, elasticity and skin glow

Due to our active lifestyle and high levels of UV light, every Australian over the age of 40 can benefit from a series of IPL. It is a completely natural way to revive your skin and give it a healthy glow, reversing sun damage, redness and pigmentation.

Consultation All new patients require an initial consultation to determine treatment priorities, appropriate home care and create a focused plan. Dr Grant will be able to discuss your concerns and create a multimodal treatment plan involving different lasers and medical treatment options. This will involve skin analysis and test patching, to ensure your skin is suitable for treatment, and to find the best settings suited to your skin. The test patch site may need a few days to settle.

Do not book for laser if you have had a recent spray tan, suntan or sunburn. Please see our aftercare advice.

Darker skin types will need to prepare the skin for 4-6 weeks before treatments. We do this for safety reasons and there are no exceptions.

Procedure Time
from 20 mins

What To Expect IPL feel mildly uncomfortable, like an elastic band hitting the skin. If you have an impaired skin barrier or dry skin, we may advise a series of other treatments first to prepare your skin for IPL.

Recommended Plan
IPL is done every 4 weeks for 3-5 sessions. Vascular/red skin conditions e.g. rosacea may require 6 initial sessions. Most patient return 1- 2 times a year for a maintenance treatment.

Planning
Plan your treatment at least 2 weeks before a special event.

Downtime / Aftercare
Expect redness and swelling for up to 48 hours- a cool compress will help relieve this. Expect dark pigment to increase temporarily post-treatment, and then fall off or fade after a few weeks. Redness will fade over 2- 3 weeks. You must wear sunscreen and avoid the sun while undergoing treatment.
