PDO monothreads

What are PDO Monothreads?

Monothreads tighten and supporting the skin, using Polydioxanone “PDO” sutures to induce collagen formation in the skin.

The PDO thread we use for aesthetics is extremely thin- finer than a human hair. The safety profile of PDO threads is well established, as they are composed of the same material used to make absorbable surgical sutures used to suture wounds and in surgery. PDO monothreads are placed using a sterile cannula- after the injection, the cannula is removed and the thread sits in the subcutaneous tissue under the skin. It is not visible.

We inject multiple threads into the skin, aiming to creating a mesh to provide support for new collagen formation. Over the next 3 months, the threads slowly dissolve, leaving the collagen mesh which remains for the next 9 -12 months.. This results in improved skin quality- thicker, tighter skin, smoother skin texture, reduction in superficial lines, and a sharper contour.

Please note, the threads we use are PDO monothreads improve skin quality- they are not “lifting threads”. We do not iffer lifting threads at our clinic.

Who is the best Candidate for PDO Monothreads?

The best candidates for PDO monothreads are those with mild to moderate skin laxity or thin skin who want to prevent ageing skin, and those who don’t want fillers of anti wrinkle treatments or surgery to improve laxity. Threads do not work well in severely sun damaged skin, due to damage to the structural proteins in skin.

What areas can be treated with PDO monothreads?

Common treatment zones include areas of thin skin and laxity such as: the cheeks and “accodian lines” (smile lines in lower third of the face), jawline, and under the chin. Threads are often used in the neck region to address global skin quality and laxity as well as in fixed horizontal neck lines. We may combine Ultraformer and threads in a treatment plan for these areas.

They are quote effective for the perioral region such as the upper lip lines and marionette lines- the skin is thin in this region and we commonly use threads to improve skin quality with a small amount of dermal filler to address volume loss.

PDO threads can be used to stimulate collagen in areas of fixed lines such as the forehead and frown line- we prefer to treat with threads rather than use dermal fillers, as the upper face is a high risk for blindness using dermal fillers which poses an unacceptable risk.
