Dermal Filler Treatments

What is a Dermal FIller?

Dermal fillers rejuvenate the face by restoring volume and enhancing underlying structures. Comprised of synthetic gels that mimic naturally occurring sugars found in the skin, dermal fillers offer a low cost, non- surgical approach to facial rejuvenation and are popular because they are effective and offer predictable results.

We also use dermal fillers to prevent signs of ageing, achieve a more proportioned face and balanced facial profile. This approach gives subtle, natural outcomes.

Fillers are produced in different densities. Thicker fillers enhance structure and provide definition to the face such as the cheekbone and jawline. Softer fillers add volume to lips and infill lines. Very fine fillers called skin boosters are used to hydrate the skin and improve texture.

Dr Grant has a natural aesthetic, and prefers to enhance rather than change the shape of your features. We performs dermal fillers using advanced techniques including cannula to reduce bruising risk and complications. We only use premium TGA approved products that have proven safety, efficacy and longevity.

How Can Fillers Be Used To Achieve Natural Results? When used with knowledge of facial ageing and in combination with other modalities, fillers can refresh your face, look natural, and subtly enhance your beauty- the key to natural outcomes is understanding why and how the face ages, taking the time to assess your face and develop a customised approach to enhance as opposed to augment your facial features

Who is the best candidate for dermal fillers? The best candidates for dermal filers are patients with good skin quality- usually this is patients aged 30 - 55 who are healthy, and are noticing concerns such as loss of volume (“looking tired”), or those seeking subtle enhancement of their natural features.

Am I too old for Dermal Fillers? No one is too old for dermal fillers. However, as we age, skin becomes thinner, more lax and there is more volume loss. When the skin is thin and stretchy, fillers don’t work as well and can look puffy and unnatural. This also means that higher volumes of dermal filler may be required in order to obtain a meaningful result.

Dr Grant’s approach with fillers is to start with the skin quality first. We advocate starting focusing on treatments that improve your skin strength such as medical grade home care, lasers, peels, and Ultraformer first, and moving on to dermal fillers when your skin is stronger. This will save you money, and will result in a more natural outcome.

Dr Grant employs a range of techniques, suitable for all age groups including skin strengthening with dermal fillers which can work in even the most mature skin. Lip dermal filler and perioral fillers (for support and lines/volume loss around the mouth) can benefit all age groups

Dr Grant only performs procedures where they are indicated. She will often advise alternative treatments, or decline to treat if she feels this is in your best interest. Dr Grant may also advise dissolving past dermal filler treatments if they have migrated or have an unnatural look. Please do not be offended - she will always have your best interests at heart. Moreover, some patients do best with a surgical approach (such as a neck lift or face lift)- there is only so much that a needle and gel can do!

Please note, if you have had dermal filler or other cosmetic treatments in the past- please bring a copy of your past treatment plans.

All cosmetic injectable treatments are a medical procedure and have risks. Our doctor performs all initial consultations and treatments and advises on a suitable treatment plan. You may book with our Registered Nurse or Dr Grant for subsequent treatments.

We do note use remote prescribers and Dr Grant has full oversight for all of our patients. All of our medical staff have completed Post Graduate training in Cosmetic Medicine.

Booking

All patients must have an initial consultation first with Dr Grant including review of your medical, surgical and psychological history, physical examination and facial assessment.

From here she will create an individual plan for your treatments and confirm that dermal fillers are appropriate. There are so many other treatments on offer, dermal fillers are only a small piece of the aesthetic options. We prefer you to take the time to understand your treatment and options before proceeding.

You may have a treatment on the day after your consultation- please make sure you discuss this with our staff at the time of booking.

Procedure Time
Allow 45 minutes for a standard treatment of one area. Please arrive makeup free and 30 minutes before your appointment if we have planned to use a topical anaesthetic.

Downtime / Aftercare
Mild bruising, swelling, lumps, bumps and asymmetry are common, which generally settle in 2 weeks. Ice and paracetamol may be used to manage discomfort. Mineral makeup may be applied 24 hours after your treatment.

It is normal for the filer to take a few weeks to settle in. We will review outcomes at 3- 4 weeks post treatment and retreat at this time if required.

How often will I need a treatment? Softer fillers (e.g. in the lip and mobile areas) last 6- 12 months. Cheek and jawline fillers may last up to 2 years. Note evidence now tells us that fillers can last a very long time in the face, with MRI studies confirming the presence of filler in the tear trough region for over 12 years!. Consequently, we will take a cautious approach.

Dr Grant will generally see her patients a few times initially we have reached the desired outcome, after which we will only perform maintenance dermal filler treatments after facial assessment

Risks to consider Your safety is paramount. Rarely, fillers are associated with infection, immune reaction and rarely blood vessel occlusion or blindness. This is why it is important to have treatments from medical practitioners with experience, knowledge of anatomy and who can treat you if a rare side effect occurs. Dr Grant personally cares for every patient in our clinic and works with a network of Cosmetic Physicians to provide you the best care.

We will review these risks and how to mitigate and manage them as part of your initial consultation.

Please contact us at any time if you are concerned on 0404 123 781 or email info@thriveskinclinic.com.au.
